Annual List Showcases Top Education Technology Companies.
AGOURA HILLS, Calif., March 12, 2014 - Public access gateway pioneer Nomadix, Inc. has been named as one of CIOReview’s Top 20 Education Tech Solution Providers. The annual list of companies was selected by a panel of experts and members of CIOReview’s editorial board to recognize and promote technology entrepreneurship and value-add solutions to the education market.
Education has specialized needs for public Internet access. Students, faculty and even outside visitors require both wired and wireless Internet connection in almost every building on campus. In addition to distributing bandwidth evenly, students of all ages can be subjected to serious Internet abuses such as cyber bullying. Nomadix provides a range of solutions from public access gateways to Wi-Fi hot spots to traffic optimizers that monitor web usage and filter out unwanted content. Nomadix-enabled networks allow students using mobile devices to transparently move between different locations on campus, thereby creating a truly ubiquitous Internet.
“Nomadix has been on our radar for their top-notch technology contributions to the education sector," said Harvi Sachar, publisher and founder, CIO Review. “Their solutions continue to break new ground benefiting customers around the globe, and we’re pleased to showcase them on our top companies list.”
In particular, the Nomadix Internet Traffic Optimizer (NITO) can be especially valuable in the education market, as it offers real-time web filtering, the ability to monitor all mobile devices on the network, and granular reporting for IT administrators. With many disturbing trends plaguing the K-12 and higher education spaces, ranging from cyber bullying to students paying less attention towards education and more attention to diversions like video/online gaming or illegally downloading content, there is a strong need for educational institutions to use some sort of sophisticated Internet management to provide real-time content filtering. NITO’s ability to analyze traffic over Wi-Fi and wired links, and subsequently review text messages, e-mails and web sites visited is crucial in preventing dangers from cyber world. NITO achieves this with full oversight and control by the school’s IT management, who define new rules that are specific to the school’s administration policies.
“While technology has improved the lives of many students, it has also fueled troubling trends like cyber bullying,” said Fred Reeder, chief commercial and operating officer, Nomadix. “If technology is playing a role in creating these problems, then it should be able to play a role combating it. We will continue to provide technology tools to the education industry and work with administrators to minimize the negative efforts that technology can create. We thank CIOReview for recognizing our efforts.”
